Some of the projects NeWGS is currently involved in: Gathering information on Civil War veterans of Stevens County with the purpose of identifying burial sites and obtaining headstones for those without. Stones will be provided free of charge by the Veterans Administration but there will be costs incurred in setting the stones. If you would like to help with these costs, please send donations payable to NeWGS, c/o Colville Public Library, 195 S. Oak, Colville, WA 99114, and specify "Civil War Project." Sponsoring "Gathering Memories" an oral history project Maintaining a collection of photos pertaining to the history and people of Stevens, Pend Oreille and Ferry counties. Index to the 1910 census for Stevens County (Pend Oreille was still part of Stevens at this time) - completed and available online through the Washington State Archives Index to the 1900 census of Stevens County was recently completed Indexing the state censuses for Stevens County for 1889 and 1892 is completed and available at Washington State History. Indexing the territorial censuses for Stevens County (which included most of northeastern Washington) - 1871, 1878, 1885 and 1887 are completed. All are online at Washington State History. Indexing courthouse records extracted by NeWGS members from the Auditor's Office Evergreen Cemetery: a continuing project to maintain this pioneer cemetery, including cleanup and repair of headstones. NeWGS is maintaining a fund for this purpose.
